The 26-year-old, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Hillsborough, scored three goals in nine appearances for the Owls at a goals-by-minute rate of better then a goal every other game.
It’s been no secret that Wednesday boss Garry Monk has been keen to add Windass to his squad on a full-time basis and with only only a few days to go until their Carabao Cup season opener at Walsall on Saturday, pressure is mounting to add firepower to a strikers line-up containing only Jordan Rhodes at current.

Hide AdThe Star understands that despite the delay Wednesday remain ‘very confident’ of securing the deal, with Windass keen to join his teammates as soon as possible. It is believed that complications around the deal centre on Wigan’s ongoing financial troubles.
Reports have put a transfer fee at somewhere close to the £500,000 Wigan owe Rangers for his 2018 transfer.
Windass has been training on his own at a sports facility close to his home in West Yorkshire and is understood to be in good condition. Any completion of a deal in the coming days could see him thrown straight into the squad for the the Walsall clash.
Two other clubs are believed to have had bids accepted but it is understood that Windass has chosen Wednesday in a move that will reunite him with his former Accrington Stanley manager, Monk’s new assistant, James Beattie.
