Garry Monk's men ran-out 3-1 winners in the capital after goals either side of half-time from strikers Steven Fletcher (2) and Atdhe Nuhiu.

Bannan pulled the strings in midfield, creating Fletcher's 17th minute opener with a delightful cross from the left. The little Scot was also featured prominently in Nuhiu's late strike as the Owls secured sealed their first win in six attempts.

Speaking to Sky Sports post-match, Bannan said: "The boys were brilliant. The performances in the last few weeks have been good but we've not got the results.

"Today was the total package. We really deserved the victory."

The 30-year-old scooped the man-of-the-match award after an imperious display in the centre. He claims the Owls have "performed pretty well" in recent weeks but have not been "clinical" enough in the final third.

The former Aston Villa trainee pointed to Fernando Forestieri's glaring first half miss, saying: "We should have gone two nil up and they got it back to an equaliser.

"But we showed the maturity in the team. We are learning from the mistakes in the previous weeks and I think we fully deserved the victory so hopefully we can push on from this and kick up the table."

Bannan has appeared 18 times this season, including two substitute appearances in all competitions, and chipped in with four assists.
