Owls manager Garry Monk has not hidden from the fact the Championship club are actively looking at the loan market as he seeks to strengthen their forward line. His team continues to be heavily linked with young Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah, who has spent the first half of the season on loan at Leeds United.

"Like everyone, you would like to do it (transfer business) straight away and have it all done especially in this window,” Monk told The Star.

"I don't think January is a very good window to do recruitment in the general sense because not many teams want to lose their best players.

"Also in this market, when people are scrambling around looking at certain positions, things are overpriced and you have to be mindful of that.

"The key is to do good business if you are going to do it.

"You identify the areas and make sure that it is players who can help you and add to what you have already got and that it is smart.

"It is not putting yourself in a position where you can regret anything."

Monk dismissed the notion that the January transfer window should be scrapped, saying: "It is a window that can be used if done in the right way, with the right planning and right understanding of what you need to do.

"It is not a window where you will do the bulk of your recruitment. It is a case of in normal circumstances where you would like to do minimal in January and maybe add a couple to what you need to do.”

Work is ongoing regarding Wednesday's recruitment drive, according to Monk.

"There is nothing concrete at the moment," he said. "The market that we are looking at with the loans is competitive.

"Everyone is looking at the same or similar players.

"The key is to improve what we have already got. If it can add to what we have got, we will do it.

"Everyone is working hard but at this moment in time there is nothing to report."
