Sodje in line for recall

AKPO Sodje is pressing strongly for a recall as the injury-hit Owls bid to beef up their side to face Watford tonight.

Sodje's height and physical presence make him favourite to replace Francis Jeffers if, as expected, the striker is ruled out for the clash with the Championship leaders who are known for direct football and aerial threat.

Wednesday could be forced to make as many as five changes, with their injury problems having turned out to be worse than was at first feared.

Jeffers (groin), Steve Watson (knee) and Tommy Spurr (dead leg) have been joined on the injured list by Richard Wood (groin) and Wade Small (ankle).

But Michael Johnson (Achilles) has recovered from the knock that he took at Norwich.

Brian Laws is giving little away about tonight's line-up as he does not to forewarn Watford but has hinted that Burton O'Brien may return.

O'Brien, who scored one goal and made another in the defeat at Charlton in August, is a contender for a left-side spot in place of Small.

Laws admitted: "O'Brien has done nothing wrong. He was excellent at Charlton."

Laws would still rather play with one rather than two specialist wingers at this stage, and use a midfield player on the opposite flank, so if O'Brien plays it could mean no place for Etienne Esajas and a start for Jermain Johnson.
