Sheffield Wednesday face a nervous wait on the medical assessment of top scorer Steven Fletcher, who was stretchered off in the second half of their FA Cup third round clash with Brighton.

The Scot, returning to the starting line-up for the first time since the 4-0 win at Nottingham Forest in mid-December, went down in a collision with Seagulls defender Geatan Bong.

He was seen writhing in agony holding his knee and a he was stretchered him off before the hour mark, replaced by Sam Winnall with the score at 0-0.

Fletcher’s recent absence through illness coincided with a desperate run of results for the Owls.

The 32-year-old is the club’s top scorer with 12 goals.

Speaking on that absence earlier this week Owls boss Garry Monk said:

“We’ve missed him as well, of course we have. A player in that type of form and scoring you goals, of course you’re going to miss that.
