Fox, out of contract at the end of the season, has nailed down the left-back spot in Garry Monk’s team, making 16 starts in a row since mid-October.

“Consistency helps definitely,” Fox told The Star. “I have had it before where I have been in and out whether that be the manager’s decision or a couple of injuries and niggles.

“It has been good to get a good run of games as I think consistency is massive because you can work on different things.

“It has been good to get a little run of games and get into a rhythm. That is when I play my best football.”

Asked whether he is in the best form since moving to Hillsborough three years ago from Charlton Athletic, Fox replied: “I think so.

“It helps when you look at the lads around me. We have got a great group here.

Fox has enjoyed working with Monk, saying: “He has been good for me.

“He is black and white with what your roles are and I think we have got a squad where everyone likes to know their jobs and what they have to do.

“He is happy when we stick to that and so are we and we have got results from that.”

Wednesday return to action with a Yorkshire derby showdown with automatic promotion contenders Leeds United. Monk’s men have dropped from third to eighth after losing three on the bounce.

Fox said: “It’s a tight league and if you can put back to back wins together and stay consistent then you are going to be there or thereabouts so that is what we are looking to do.

“We had a little blip over Christmas but if we get rid of that then we will be right up there.”
