Here's how we ranked the Owls players' performances against the Blues...

Couldn't do much to stop Willian's brother but otherwise dealt with everything that was asked of him.
Struggled to contain a lively performance from Hudson-Odoi and was given a yellow card mid way through the first period so had to be careful from then on.

A strong performance from the Owls captain, restrcting Chelsea's new signing Higuain to a handful of chances. Had to adapt when Giroud came on towards the end of the second half.
Handled what was asked of him well in the first period, as Chelsea were forced to use their wide men to create chances. Was tested more in the second half, especially after Giroud's introduction.
Had to handle Willian who was lively and drifted inside for large periods of the first half. Limited Chelsea's advances down the wing and fed Reach on the right in the second half.
Got forward and caused problems as he was brought down for the 'almost' penalty ruled out by VAR. Was combative in the middle of the park. Made way for Forestieri after the visitors went 2-0 down.
Used his experience and was often a key part of Wednesday's link up play as they looked to move forward into the Chelsea half. Got stuck in at the back when he needed to.
Gave away the penalty that put Chelsea ahead on his first return to his boyhood club. Otherwise was dogged in closing down in the middle of the park and shielding the Owls defence.
Had an attempt on goal in the opening stages and was involved when Wednesday moved forward. Hit the post from an ambitious cross-cum-shot in the second half and caused the most problems for the Owls.
Came into the game and looked most threatening on the counter attack. Chased every ball to apply pressure to Rudiger and Azpilicueta. Replaced by Joao on 75 mins.
Was in an interesting match up against youngster Ethan Ampadu and looked lively when he had the ball at his feet. Led the team from the front with his pressing and intensity, replaced by Nuhiu on 75 mins.
Came on for Pelupessy part way through the second half so didn't have long to make an impact but made his presence felt on his return after time out through injury.
A 75th minute replacement for George Boyd. Caused a few problems but was limited in his chances up top.
A 75th minute replacement for Steven Fletcher, didn't see much of the ball as Chelsea put the game to bed.
