The 29-year-old is expected to leave Selhurst Park this summer, after appearing just twice for the Eagles in the last two seasons.

The defender was involved in a serious car crash back in 2016, which saw him break his leg, and he has been unable to break into the Palace first team since completing his rehabilitation process. In his absence, former Chelsea starlet Patrick van Aanholt has emerged as a reliable defensive option, and is unlikely to lose his starting spot any time in the near future.

Souare is likely to leave Palace upon the expiry of his contract, and he'll be eager to reignite his career with a new side.

According to Football Insider, Middlesbrough were the front-runners to sign the Senegal international, but the Owls have now joined the race to snap up the former Lille star.

Wednesday manager Steve Bruce is certainly keen on acquiring some free agents ahead of the upcoming season, but given the player's injury history and lack of recent first team football, the Owls boss may well have reservations over pursuing the defender.

Meanwhile, the Owls have been linked with a move for centre-back Jordan Willis, who has recently become a free agent following his release from Coventry City.
