Sheffield Wednesday not in for free agent Lee Cattermole

Cattermole, 31, is a free agent after leaving the Black Cats earlier this week after 10 years, setting off rumours of a possible link-up with his former manager Steve Bruce.

Wednesday had been rumoured to have been interested in the midfielder battler last month and with Bruce admitting his interest in strengthening in the middle of the park, many believed Hillsborough would be a potential destination.

But The Star understands the club are not in for Cattermole, who earlier this year expressed a desire to play abroad.

Cattermole, who played under Bruce at Wigan Athletic before the manager brought him to Sunderland in 2009, played over 200 games in the top three divisions for the Stadium of Light outfit.

The Wednesday squad are currently in Portugal for warm-weather training ahead of the season.
