The Kosovan forward, who appeared for the final 20 minutes replacing the hard-working Sam Winnall, grabbed and assist and then a thumping injury time goal to inspire a 2-0 win at the home of the then-table-toppers.

In an eventful cameo he was also yellow carded and put himself about to disrupt the Whites’ defence before those vital touches put Wednesday on their way.

Speaking after the match, Owls boss Garry Monk stopped well short of singling out Nuhiu for praise but said his impact was exactly what was needed.

“He was brilliant,” he said. “It was a brilliant, unbelievable finish.

“That’s what you need to do when you’re a sub and you come on, you have to have an effect and to contribute to the game.

“But it’s unfair for me to single out any player today.

“That was a proper team performance and that’s the most important thing for me.”

Nuhiu will hope to further his case for pitch time with marksman Steven Fletcher out for the next eight to 10 weeks with a knee injury.

Without Fletcher in the picture he is the club’s top goal scorer with four goals. He has two assists.

Four of his last five have come in important circumstances – they’ve arrived in the final moments of matches.
