That is the opinion of Wednesday boss Garry Monk as he prepares to lock horns with his former club Birmingham City for the first time since his controversial sacking last June.

Forestieri has only started once for the Owls in the Championship this season and was an unused substitute in Saturday's defeat at West Bromwich Albion.

Some Wednesdayites have called on Monk to hand Forestieri, whose contract expires next summer, a starting berth.

Monk said: "He is part of the squad.

"I am more than aware of his quality and he will have his chances and he will play his games but there are also other players doing very, very well.

"When you analyse the last four games, the overall picture is that a lot those players are playing very, very well and doing a good job.

"You have to make decisions as you go along and you try and put the best team on the pitch.

"It is about focusing those players on who I think can win that game.

"Of course, Fernando will contribute. I am with the players every day and see how they train and play and where they are mentally.

"I try and factor in all that as well as the perception of a player.

"Fernando will play. He will get his minutes but I also think there are a lot of other players performing well and in a position to start games. You have to consider a lot of things when you are selecting teams."

Forestieri has managed one goal in eight appearances this term.

"He will get his chances; we are coming into a busiest period," said Monk. "We will have lots of games in short periods. It is impossible for the same eleven to play in this period in the next three months.

"He will get his games and opportunities and I'm sure he will take it like any other players.
