Forward Jacques Maghoma is determined to earn a new contract at Sheffield Wednesday.

The DR Congo international says he would love to extend his deal, which expires next summer.

“It’s a big five months for me,” Maghoma told The Star. “I am in the last year of my contract and I want to stay here.

“I love the club. I get on well with all the players, the staff and the manager. Sheffield has become my second home after London! I want to be part of everything the club is building.”

Buoyed by his two-goal salvo for the Owls Under-21s earlier this week, Maghoma insists his main priority is to force his way back into Stuart Gray’s first-team plans.

He said: “I am concentrating on my football and trying to get back into the team.

“We will sit down at the end of the year and make a decision on my future then.”

Maghoma is confident he will prove his worth over the coming months.

He said: “I am always positive. At the beginning of the season, the team was working well individually and collectively which helped me.

“Once everybody’s form dipped, it made it even harder for me to get further up the field. We were playing more defensive and that’s why we didn’t get the goals. My job is to be attacking but I was doing a lot of defensive work.

“Now the team is getting some momentum and confidence back you can see everyone is pushing forward and we are creating chances especially in the last game against Wolves. That will benefit me in terms of getting forward and creating chances for the team and myself.”
