Sheffield Wednesday forward Fernando Forestieri charged by the FA

Sheffield Wednesday striker Fernando Forestieri has been charged by the Football Association for breaching Rule E3 in relation to the part he played in the mass brawl that broke out following the Owls' pre-season friendly with Mansfield Town last July.

A 40-man brawl followed the Owls' 2-1 defeat to the League Two Stags at the One Call Stadium after Forestieri was accused of having racially abused Stags defender Krystian Pearce.

But a Court of Law recently found the former Watford man not guilty of racially aggravated harassment and using threatening words or behaviour.

Now, however, an FA statement has confirmed that Forestieri, who scored six goals for the Owls last term, has breached FA Rule E3 for using words that were deemed to be abusive and/or insulting.

It is further alleged that the words constituted an ‘aggravated breach’, which is defined in Rule E3[2], as they included reference to ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race.

The Owls forward has until Friday, June 14 to respond to the charge.
