The striker scored a perfect treble – left foot, right foot, header – to help The Owls claims all three points and move up to fifth in the Championship.

It was an incredible individual performance by Rhodes, who has struggled for game time so far this season under boss Garry Monk.

Steven Fletcher continued his form in front of goal to make it 4-0 before half-time.

But Wednesday coach, Lee Bullen, was keen to make sure the rest of the team got the plaudits they deserved.

The Owls saw out the game comfortably in the second-half to record a much-needed clean sheet.

And Bullen rightly pointed out the goalkeeper Cameron Dawson, the back four of Liam Palmer, Dominic Iorfa, Tom Lees and Morgan Fox and a midfield of Adam Reach, Barry Bannan, Massimo Luongo and Kadeem Harris all played their part in what was a superb team performance.

Bullen tweeted: “JR (Jordan Rhodes) will rightly get the headlines from y’day..... fully deserved, but the unsung/unselfish performances of GK, Back 4 and midfield were the foundations of the performance. Similar to a few recent performances but took our chances yesterday. Well done all.”
