Harris, who showed glimpses of his quality on the ball in the first half, was subbed off after an hour and replaced by Adam Reach.

Monk confirmed it was a tactical decision post-match.

"They are just decisions you make throughout the game," he admitted. "We were in great ascendancy in that second half until that moment came when they scored that second goal."

Substitute Charlie Austin's 88th-minute penalty sentenced the Owls to a second successive defeat on the road.

Late goals have now cost Monk's side six points in the last three matches.

He said: "It is quite unbelievable. You normally face those situations five or six times a season but to get them in a cluster of the last three games is quite strange. I have never had that before in my managerial career.

"I think we deserved to win, the way we played in the second half.

"How we've not won that game, let alone not take any points is astounding. Everything in terms of performance is there apart from being ruthless and clinical.

"We are a really honest group and you can see how hard we are working and how well we have been playing.

"It is a really important part to keep progressing throughout the season and we have to be more ruthless with the chances we are creating.

"It is about getting those bits right in the final moments and cutting out the individual mistakes. If we have to continue to work on that to get it right, then that's what we do."
