Wednesday sit in a promising sixth position in the Championship and according to forward Winnall will head into their Yorkshire derby with Hull on New Year’s Day confident in getting themselves back on track.

“We’ve just got to do what we’ve been doing recently, which is grinding results out,” he said.

“We’ve had a lot of games in the last two or three months where we haven’t played well and we’ve won.

“Against Cardiff it went the opposite way round where we played well, we’ve worked hard and we haven’t won.

“You can’t win every game, we know that, but we need to go back to putting points on the board and that will hold us in good stead.”

Winnall returned to the side over the Christmas period after over two months on the sidelines.

And he may well be given the opportunity to continue his mid-season renaissance against a Hull side sat just three points back on the Owls.

“They’re a good side, they’ve obviously got their wingers that are very talented,” Winnall said.

“At this level you’ve just got to fear no-one, haven’t you? It’s such a crazy league.

“We’ll go in confident and hope to bounce back from a really disappointing result [against Cardiff].”
