According to reports in Lincolnshire, the 34-year-old is wanted by Grimsby Town after being released by the Owls at the end of the season.

The Grimbsy Telegraph are reporting that the former Burnley and Wolves man could be tied down to the Mariners by next week.

Jones’ Wednesday career never really took off after Carlos Carvalhal brought in the experienced midfielder from Burnley in 2016, though he played regularly under the Portuguese.

He made 57 appearances in total but just two of those came last season with neither Jos Luhukay nor Steve Bruce using the player. He scored just one goal in an Owls shirt, though a memorable one against Sunderland in August 2017.

His exit, confirmed last week, was inevitable and now it appears Jones could be dropping down a couple of levels.
