Frustration of Owls defender

Owls defender Liam Palmer has revealed his frustration at his inability to hold down a regular starting berth this season.

The right-back made just his fifth Championship start of the 2015/16 campaign in Sunday’s Hillsborough draw with promotion-chasing Derby County.

By and large, Owls boss Carlos Carvalhal has preferred Jack Hunt over Palmer in the full-back position.

But Hunt’s calf injury opened the door for Palmer, who enhanced his reputation in front of the cameras last weekend, scooping the man of the match award.

It remains unclear whether Hunt will shake off his knock in time for Saturday’s clash at play-off rivals Cardiff City.

Palmer admits he has found it, ‘at times’, difficult to adapt to Carvalhal’s squad rotation policy.

He told The Star: “When the team is going well and there’s a good feel around the place, it does help.

“If its the other way and you are not playing and the team are not doing as well, it can be frustrating and you get drawn into that.

“I just keep working hard, biding my time and do the best when called upon for the team. That’s the way I look at it.

“From day one, the dynamic he wants is for you to help the team when called upon and be ready.

“It’s important you don’t get frustrated or mope around as when the chance does come, you have to be ready to take it.”

The Worksop-born player, a first-team regular last season, admits 2015 “could have been better” for him on a personal level.

But Palmer added: “As long as the club are doing well and I am chipping in, I am happy.

“It’s not like I am completely out of the picture. For me, that’s as good as anything.

“For my form, you do like to play more to get that momentum. But you do what you can and give the best.”
