Ex-Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal linked with new managerial post at league champions

The former Hillsborough chief took the Owls to the play-offs in successive seasons before leaving the club and joining Swansea City.

Carvalhal has also recently been linked with the vacant position at Queens Park Rangers, as he looks to secure his first coaching job since leaving the Liberty Stadium at the end of the 2017/18 campaign.

And Celtic are in the market for a new manager after Brendan Rodgers left Parkhead for Premier League side Leicester City.

Interim chief Neil Lennon’s hopes of a return as permanent boss took a hit with defeat to Rangers last weekend, while recently sacked Chris Hughton is also one of the bookies’ favourites.

Celtic have qualified for a Champions League place with their league title, but will need to win a number of play-offs before entering the competition at the group stage.

Speaking in an interview last year, Carvalhal revealed that he almost joined Celtic's city rivals Rangers before taking the post at Wednesday.

He told Jim White on Talksport: “I came to London to talk to the people from Rangers at the same time as Sheffield Wednesday. Sheffield Wednesday came faster. I decided on Sheffield Wednesday.

“I was excited to talk to people from Rangers. If I was there I would be doing good work, I’m sure but they are in good hands now (with Steven Gerrard).”
