Esajas pays tribute to Wednesday support

ETIENNE Esajas is set to return to the Wednesday team tomorrow with a thank-you to fans.

The Dutch flier believes that his introduction to English football could have been torrid if supporters had turned on the team because of their bad start to the season.

But he is delighted with the way the fans have backed him and the Owls and he would love to reward them with a climb up the Championship table.

He said: "We always get great support from the fans. In Holland, if a team are not doing well, you hear boos and yells. Here, you hear 'come on guys, keep going'. That's the difference. It gives you a lot of confidence.

"It felt great to win last week. Everybody had been under pressure, the gaffer and the players. Now we have to get up the table."

The former Ajax and Vitesse Arnhem left winger was not risked in the Carling Cup tie against Everton because of a back niggle but looks set to return at Norwich tomorrow.

He admits: "I didn't think I'd play as often as I have done so soon after joining the club, but the gaffer has a lot of faith in me. I hope that I give him something back.

"We want to get going now and get some wins "

Meanwhile, today is the deadline for members of Wednesdayite to vote on whether or not the group should be willing to sell their 10 per cent stake in the club if a takeover offer emerges.
