The Owls have accumulated a massive 3564 points in their 66 top tier seasons, which places them as the 14th most successful club in terms of points earned since the top flight was first competed in 1888.

And the data, which carries up until the end of the 2018/19 season and so does not include Sheffield United’s current effort, leaves the Blades on 3170 points, some 394 points shy of the S6 total in 17th.

Wednesday were last in the table's top 10 places in 1967, while the Blades last featured in 1958.

It goes some way to proving the notion that historically-speaking, Sheffield is Yorkshire’s premier football city. Leeds United are the next-highest tallying white rose club in 20th place with 3062 points, with Huddersfield Town in 28th on 1813 points and Bradford City completing the county’s top five way back in 45th with 582.

The overall table unsurprisingly sees Liverpool top of the tree on 6846 points, 123 points ahead of Arsenal. Everton (6655), Manchester United (6343) and Aston Villa (5864) make up the top five.

Wins registered before the 1982/3 season, up to which point two points were awarded for a win, have been adjusted in accordance with the modern three-point rule.
