Defiant Owls determined to fight back

WEDNESDAY'S players have held their own inquest into the setback against Leicester as they seek a way to escape the bottom end of the table.

Captain Lee Bullen has revealed that some home truths were spoken in the dressing room after the 2-0 defeat.

But he said: "We are all together. We do believe in each other."

Errors proved costly as the Owls conceded two early goals and were unable to recover.

"This league is hard enough without giving opposing teams a two-goal start," said Bullen. "We've conceded at two corners.

"Obviously there are individual errors in those type of goals, where the situation could have been avoided.

"One or two words were said in the dressing room, which is fine. With a bit of communication and awareness, we could avoid trouble from long throws and corners.

"The second goal came from us attacking around their box; they've broken away with two against two, it's gone for a corner and the ball has finished up in the back or our net.

"If a ball goes into the box from a corner, as a defending team you have to get the ball away, whether it's a keeper getting in a punch or a defender heading it away.

"We never really looked like we were going to score.

"We have to be able to take criticism from teammates on the pitch and not take it personally."

The Owls skipper believes the squad will look to be more ruthless in games and step up their efforts in training.

"If we're wired in a bit more to training, and play with more aggression and a higher tempo, we can take that on to the pitch - a case of training how you play," he said.

Manager Brian Laws, critical of his team's defending, said that he and the players would work hard for one another and he still had faith in himself and them.

Laws expects the club's injury crisis to gave cleared up by the time the Owls play their next game, at Stoke a week next Saturday.

"I'll be disappointed if everybody is not fit. This was a game too early for us," he said.
