Carvalhal plays down Swans link

Owls boss Carlos Carvalhal has shrugged off speculation linking him with the vacant Swansea City managerial post, insisting his focus is on preparing the team for their Boxing Day tussle with Birmingham City.

There have been reports claiming Swans chairman Huw Jenkins is interested in speaking to Carvalhal, who has led Wednesday to seventh in the Championship.

Speaking at his press briefing today, Carvalhal said: "These are rumours. I can say nothing more than this.

"I am a professional. I don't talk about rumours. I am preparing the team to play on Saturday in the same way as I prepared them for Wolves last week.

"This kind of news comes from us playing good football. We are playing really well and scoring goals.

"I am trying to help Sheffield Wednesday play better and better. We have a very important game on Saturday against Birmingham."

The Owls chief also refused to comment on speculation linking Wednesday with an audacious move for striker Emmanuel Adebayor. The Togo international, formerly of Arsenal and Manchester City, is currently without a club after leaving Tottenham Hotspurs in September.

"It is a rumour," he said. "I won't comment on rumours today or tomorrow.

"I have never heard about the possibility of Adebayor coming here. He is a fantastic player but we have never talked about this."
