Addicks ready to take their frustration out on Owls

WEDNESDAY fan and former Owls loan star Nicky Weaver believes that his Charlton outfit must beat Brian Laws's men on Saturday to justify their rating as promotion contenders.

The Addicks have taken only one point from their first two games but could easily have had a bigger haul, insists Weaver.

Now he will have no qualms about helping his new team take out their early-season frustrations on Wednesday - the club he has supported since he was growing up in Killamarsh.

The 28-year told The Star: "Before the season started we were the bookies' favourites to win the League. Every game that goes by without us winning, it's going to be disappointing. If we want to get promoted then Saturday's game is one that we should be winning, as is the case with every home game.

"No disrespect to Wednesday, but we have to beat teams like them.Once we get our first win on the board, then we'll kick on, and I'm sure Wednesday will think the same."

Weaver, who fulfilled an ambition by playing for Wednesday in the 2005-06 campaign, when he was on loan from Manchester City, helped City knock the Owls out of the FA Cup and joined Charlton this summer.

The Owls, while still awaiting a decision from defender Sam Sodje on his proposed move from Reading, were today set to welcome Steve Watson (stomach strain) and Marcus Tudgay (shoulder) back to training - a double boost after they missed the Wolves game on Sunday because of their injuries.

Glenn Whelan is also resuming work after going off on Sunday with a groin problem.

Francis Jeffers' calf strain is expected to rule him out of Saturday's match against his former club.
