JEFF King has been tracked down for the first time as Wednesday old boys get set for another Sheffield derby reunion.

The midfielder who played for the Owls and the Blades could not be found when a 20th anniversary get-together to mark the 1979 Boxing Day 4-0 win against United was organised.

But King, who scored one of the goals, will be there when the ex-Wednesday side gather at a Hillsborough function on the eve of this month’s city derby.

Organiser John Green said: “Jeff was the only one I couldn’t find when we had a similar event in 1999.

“But I have managed to track him down this time: he’s in Derby. He was pleasantly surprised to be told about what’s happening and is really looking forward to meeting the rest of the lads and the fans.”

John launched a successful appeal to find several members of the Seventies squad, including trainer Tony Toms, who was contacted in Wales and gave the thumbs up.

Almost all the players and manager Jack Charlton will be attending the dinner on Saturday, February 25, the evening before the derby.
