Kevin Beadell's impending Sheffield Wednesday exit explained with recruitment chief to move on
Sheffield Wednesday will part ways with a key member of staff next week.
As first reported by BBC Sheffield, Owls head of recruitment Kevin Beadell will leave the club at the end of the month after a little over two years in the role. The former Arsenal, Manchester United and Cardiff City man arrived to the club in December 2023 and has spearheaded five transfer windows at Hillsborough.
The Star understands that Beadell was informed of the decision by the club’s administrators at Begbies Traynor some three weeks ago. It can be revealed that the recruitment chief had been employed on a monthly rolling consultancy contract throughout his time with the club and with the recruitment period over - and the club still operating under the financial strain of administration - the decision has been made to cut ties. The news is believed to have been received with disappointment but amicably.

Beadell is well thought of within the game and has remained with Wednesday on a consultancy basis despite offers elsewhere during a little over two years with the Owls.
The Star is told that as part of discussions with Beadell, he was also advised on the basis of clarity that the club’s preferred bidders would be taking their own approach to recruitment should they be ratified to take control of Wednesday out of the administration process. The consortium named preferred bidder, led by James Bord, has a footing in analytics and recruitment and is currently undergoing detailed vetting processes to determine whether authorities feel they are fit to take the club on.
Beadell is known to be a popular figure at S6 having worked closely with Danny Röhl and Henrik Pedersen during his time with the club. His contacts within the game are said to have been hugely important, particularly in recent months when securing deals with major clubs despite heavy recruitment restrictions - with opportunities to recruit often arriving at short notice.
With the club’s takeover process still in limbo, it leaves the club without an acting recruitment lead heading into what promises to be a vital and busy off-season and adds a further layer of uncertainty as to the plan for the coming months. The Star’s understanding is that the takeover process is still weeks from any likelihood of completion.
