Exclusive:Davis Keillor-Dunn situation 'ongoing' as Sheffield Wednesday look to complete Wrexham deal
Sheffield Wednesday are looking to add Davis Keillor-Dunn to their squad.
Sheffield Wednesday’s deadline day loan signing of Wrexham attacker Davis Keillor-Dunn is yet to be fully ratified, with the situation ‘ongoing’ as of 10:30am, The Star is told.
The Owls are believed to have struck a deal to bring the former Barnsley forward to Hillsborough as they sought to complete a last-gasp deal on Tuesday, deadline day of the summer transfer window. The deal is understood to have came about late in the day and saw the 28-year-old make the journey for a medical around the time Wednesday kicked off their League One clash at Wycombe Wanderers ahead of an initial 11pm deadline.
At the time of publication it is believed that Keillor-Dunn is not yet registered as a Wednesday player, with one source with knowledge of the deal suggesting the registration is subject to a clearance process. The finite circumstances are not yet known but any deals completed towards the final deadline could require ratification from football authorities including FIFA.
That process is not especially unusual and the Owls have been there before, most notably in the case of Jordan Rhodes’ 2017 transfer from Middlesbrough. That deal was eventually ratified and confirmed around lunchtime the following day.
As revealed by The Star some weeks ago Wednesday have been admirers of Keillor-Dunn’s throughout the summer, though a deal seemed unlikely until a ‘unique opportunity’ arose to get something done late on deadline day.
Completion of his signing would present something of a coup for Wednesday. The 28-year-old has 36 goals in 88 appearances and League One level through his career and can play across the frontline, presenting an exciting further attacking option to Henrik Pedersen and his staff.
Grinning at the mention of Keillor-Dunn’s name during his post-match press conference at Adams Park, Owls boss Pedersen said: “I have concentrated for the game tonight and I am looking forward to speaking to the people if something can happen but I don’t know how far we are with signing new players.”
When pushed if he was hopeful that they could make an extra addition, Pedersen continued: “Yes, we have had a list with potential loan players, and yes, I'm excited to see what happens now in the next one or two hours. I'll be happy for one, but I'm really looking forward to speaking to the guys what has happened before the game.”
