Kads can defend; FDB on the cards - Five things we learned from Sheffield Wednesday v Huddersfield Town

It was a relatively uneventful evening at Hillsborough last night as Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town played out a 0-0 bore draw in The Owls’ penultimate home game of the season, but it wasn’t all doom and gloom.

A few talking points here...

A home clean sheet, finally

It’s been a while, and though Wednesday’s wait for a win at Hillsborough went on, they can at least take heart in the fact that they were able to keep a clean sheet there for the first time since February (1-0 v Charlton) and have now kept consecutive Championship clean sheets for the first time this year. We’ll take the small victories.

The Lees we know

He’s struggled for form this season, but over the last couple of games Tom Lees has put in performances closer to those that saw him become indispensable to Wednesday at one point, and ultimately got him the captain’s armband,

The fact that his return to action has also coincided with a couple of clean sheets will have gone down very well with the player and his manager, and – other than a loose backpass against QPR that went unpunished – he hasn’t put a foot wrong.

No player on the field made more clearances that Lees (12) last night, with the defender making almost as many as the entire Huddersfield team combined (19), and he’ll be have been very pleased to get a full 90 minutes under his belt again.

The centre of back three really seems to suit him so far, so you’d expect him to start again this weekend.

Harris can defend!

When he was snapped up by Wednesday, I doubt any fan was expecting to see the defensive side of Kadeem Harris’ game. He was signed as a winger after all.

Over the last two games, though, no SWFC player has made more successful tackles than the former Cardiff City man (7), and he’s really making that LWB position his own at this point in time.

Those cardboard cut-outs haven’t seen much joy

Much like the fans that have been going to Hillsborough all season – Wednesday have scored the least amount of home goals of any Championship club – those cardboard cut-outs in the stands haven’t seen much joy during their time at S6.

There can be no talk of fan pressure anymore, but still the Owls have scored just twice in their four home games since the return of football, scoring just twice. Last night was the ninth time this season that they’ve failed to score on home turf.

FDB is on the cards!

He’s not quite KDB yet, but Sheffield Wednesday may be getting an FDB from Manchester City as they step up the chase for Fisayo Dele-Bashiru. And Garry Monk has now confirmed their interest.

After the Huddersfield draw he said, "When things are concrete, I will say but he is a player that I know and have seen and they are types that we would like to try and bring in.

"There are discussions going on but it is not at a stage where I can say it is concrete.”
