'Just so angry and hurt now' - what Sheffield Wednesday fans are saying after disastrous Rotherham United defeat

Sheffield Wednesday were dealt a huge blow in their bid to avoid relegation to League One after Freddie Ladapo’s moment of brilliance deep into injury time secured all three points for Rotherham United at Hillsborough this evening.

Ladapo’s 97th minute wonder strike for the 10-man Millers leaves the Owls, led by Darren Moore in his first game in charge at Hillsborough, seven points from safety and facing an uphill task to beat the drop with just 13 games remaining.

Wednesday had fallen behind to Michael Smith’s early headed effort before levelling matters with just eight minutes to go through Matthew Olosunde’s own goal.

But despite pushing for a late winner in the relegation six-pointer, it was Moore’s men who were sucker-punched in the dying moments when Ladapo fired home from outside of the box after being put through by Matt Crooks following a lightning fast break out of defence.

Writing on Twitter, our Owls correspondent Joe Crann posted: “If Darren Moore keeps #SWFC up now, he deserves a medal. Huge defeat, catastrophic result. Not good enough.”

And it was a view shared by many on the social media platform.

Let’s take a look at what they’re saying after another disastrous night for Wednesday.

@OWLFOREVER Basic passing, basic crossing - standard was atrocious. Last seconds, we have a corner and that's the cross we put in from which they score. School boy stuff. Just so angry and hurt now.

@_Jamerzh_ I like Darren Moore, he is probably too good for us with the current state of the club....BUT please don't defend these pathetic cowards that pass themselves off as players.

@KingyOwl Never felt so negative about absolutely every aspect of the club in my life as I do right now. Tonight was the most predictable finale ever, I just reacted with a laugh! I can honestly see us sliding straight down to the fourth tier!

@Jamesy_boy If you ever want to learn how to deal with disappointment, anger, frustration and disappointment again. Follow #swfc.

@S6Addict The amount of chances we had tonight should be more than enough to win any game of football.

@owlingmad1997 I’ve always been a believer in football being anyone’s game on the day. But for that to work, you’ve got to be up for it. The players have no fight or grit. Weak mentality.

@Joe_Marriott15 Feel really sorry for Moore, I hope he's given a fair chance to rebuild us in League One. This season was doomed long before he came.

@owl4life1867 Even if we won every single game this season, scored a record number of goals and got maximum points, conceding five goals in total to Rotherham should result in automatic relegation to the National League.

@BethanyRachaelH Lost for words. Glad I wasn’t at Hillsborough tonight, I’d be driving home with a very sore throat.

@1987whitt As bad as we played we actually created chances, so that’s a positive.

@Greggy_7 I don’t even know what to say anymore, it’s past embarrassing.

@steve_noonan The joys of being a Wednesdayite . . . I’m not certain this is the worst team I’ve seen
