WHEN Dave Jones spoke at a press conference after his first game in charge of the Owls, his voice was hoarse because he had been yelling orders to the players.

He joked that the only thing he had shouted in the months he spent out of football was “fore” - a reference to his love of golf.

But he will be out on the course again during the summer holidays, playing in the annual Addison Lee Footballers’ Golf Classic, in La Manga, Spain, on June 9-14.

The field also includes Ipswich and former Wednesday manager Paul Jewell and ex-Blades boss Dave Bassett.

Last year’s winner was former Millwall and Wales striker Steve Lovell, who edged out ex-Scotland striker and TV pundit McInally

The event features a one-day competition for the Alan Ball Trophy and the three-day main event, which is sponsored by London minicab company Addison Lee, with competitors playing alongside a different footballer each day.

Places cost £1,398 per person and include five nights in the five-star Hotel La Manga Club Principe Felipe. For further information visit, call 07918 644900 or email For more information on La Manga Club visit
