Wednesday face Cardiff City on Saturday as the 2020/21 Championship season gets underway, and I’ve a go at picking my team as Garry Monk’s side seek a winning start to the new season in Wales.
5. RWB - Kadeem Harris
I’ve made no secret of how impressed I’ve been with Harris since stepping into the wingback role, I think he’s shown himself to be a lot more than just a pacey winger with the defensive work that he’s done. I would, however, move him onto the right to incorporate my next choice. Photo: Steve Ellis
6. LWB - Matt Penney
A Man of the Match performance after playing just 30 minutes in the Carabao Cup can’t really be ignored. He looked like a breath of fresh air when he came on, and I think he did more than enough to put his hand up for a start this weekend. Hopefully he’ll be just as lively. Photo: Steve Ellis
7. CM - Barry Bannan
One of the first names on the teamsheet. The club captain now, and still the creative hub of Sheffield Wednesday in the middle of the park. Brown’s arrival takes some of the pressure off him to create, and should hopefully give him a bit more freedom. Photo: Steve Ellis
8. CM - Massimo Luongo
The Australian put in a solid showing against Walsall last weekend, and I think will be crucial to do the ‘dirty work’ for Wednesday this season as a breaker just in front of the back three. Full of energy and running, an important piece of the puzzle. Photo: Steve Ellis
