Izzy Brown apologises for corner kick that led to Rotherham United winner against Sheffield Wednesday

It was substitute Brown’s delivery, which failed to beat the first defender at the near post, that lead to the 10-man Millers’ breakaway and subsequent winning goal with just seconds left.

The result left the Owls seven points from safety, albeit with one game in hand on both Birmingham and Coventry City, who have 35 points each.

After the final whistle, Brown tweeted: “Hold my hands up, the corner was no where [sic] near good enough from me!!

"It hurts me as much as it does all of you, we have to move onto Saturday now & put things right.”

Brown, a former England youth international, has struggled for game time since arriving at S6 and had not started a league match since September before last weekend’s defeat away to Luton Town.

He has, however, previously worked with new boss Darren Moore while at West Bromwich Albion, which could lead to him playing a bigger role between now and the end of the season.

Moore is known to play an attacking style and has said he wants his new team to play ‘on the front foot’.

Sheffield Wednesday travel to fifth-placed Reading this weekend, who have won their last two.

Former Owls striker Lucas João now plays for the Royals and has already found the net 17 times in the league this season, his best-ever attacking return in the Championship.
