"It's too late" - "He's our star player": Sheffield Wednesday fans debate whether Fernando Forestieri should be sold in January
It’s been said before, but few footballers polarise opinion in a club’s fanbase more than Fernando Forestieri at Sheffield Wednesday.
The little maestro has been a bit-part player this season, featuring in only one Garry Monk starting line-up after a six-match ban for alleged racism back in 2018.
And with his contract set to run out this summer, debate has begun to circle as to whether or not the Owls should keep hold of the former Italy youth international.
The 29-year-old is one of the club’s highest-paid players and his departure would ease the club’s financial burden.
Today The Star’s Dom Howson penned a column suggesting the time was now for Wednesday to seek a buyer for Forestieri, moving him on six months in advance of the end of his deal in the January transfer window.
Wednesdayites took to social media to have their say.
