The 26-year-old, who today spoke publicly for the first time about the incident, was banned for three matches after a retrospective FA charge.

Video footage saw him twice grab at Paterson’s privates, with the Scotland international’s muted appeals to the referee going unanswered.

Asked about the incident the week after, the Wednesday man said that he had “experienced a lot of things on the park,” refusing to comment any further.

Having served his ban, highly-rated full-back Fisher was in no mood for apologies, claiming the ‘outside world’ had been whipped up to take it too seriously by a furious reaction on social media.

“I did think it [the reaction] was too much,” Fisher said.

“Everyone in football was just laughing and having a bit of banter about it but in the outside world it got taken a bit too seriously, which was too much at times.

“That's how it is in the outside world, a lot of people have an opinion on what goes on in football but it's the society we're in with Twitter, Instagram - everyone has their say, you have to take the good with the bad and I'm mentally strong so I can just crack on with it.

“Players were supportive of me and even people playing now were saying 'how did you get banned for it?' but it is what it is and you just have to get on with it.

“I got a bit of stick from everywhere, even people I played with years ago were having a laugh with it.

“Thankfully it's died down now, I'm glad that I'm back in the team and playing - hopefully now I can be consistent for the team and play as many games as I can.”

The incident incurred an angry reaction from Owls boss Tony Pulis, who said: “I think what the lad did was ridiculous really.

“Did he do it for Callum to react and try and get the kid sent off? That’s the only reason I can think why he did it. But it is ridiculous and something that should not happen in professional sport and fingers crossed we won’t see it again.”
