The Rams raced into a 3-0 lead in the first 30 minutes after a double from Tom Lawrence and a Jason Knight strike had the visitors well in control at the break.

Substitute Josh Windass pulled a goal back in the second-half but overall it was another bad day at the office for Wednesday.

“It was a bad performance in the first-half,” Bannan said.

“Individual mistakes killed us in the first-half and afterwards it is hard to come back after losing 3-0.

“It is disappointing after the last couple of games.

“It was not good enough.

“It is disappointing because this was a big week.”

The Owls went into the game on the back of an encouraging draw at Birmingham City and a win against Charlton Athletic but Derby took full advantage of some dreadful defensive mistakes.

Bannan added: “We were unlucky not to beat Birmingham, we got a good result in midweek and today you look to build on that and you are 3-0 down in the first-half which is just not good enough.

“The first goal is a bit of luck in their case but the next two goals are our own mistakes.

“They have not had to work hard for their goals which is disappointing.

“Second-half we played a lot better and took the game to them. We had a few half chances, on another day they go in but we lost the game in the first-half so it is our fault.”
