Debutant Macauley Bonne’s 96th minute leveller dashed Garry Monk’s side’s hopes of securing all three points after a Yoann Barbet own goal had put Wednesday ahead in the 54th minute.

The draw leaves the Owls on minus seven points at the bottom of the table, seven points adrift of Wycombe Wanderers and Nottingham Forest.

Writing on Twitter, The Star’s Owls correspondent Joe Crann wrote: “Don’t think my first game covering #SWFC live could have been more Wednesday…

“Horrible day in Sheffield, it’s cold and wet, and there’s last-minute goal against. Way too familiar.”

Here’s what other Wednesdayites have said on Twitter.

@PistolPete1867 No goals in this Wednesday side, we really need to bring a striker in during the international break. Eight points off fourth from bottom, we really need to pick up a couple of quick wins.

@tjchitt86 The 96th minute seems to have become our kryptonite

@PeterHanson89 Could feel that one coming when Lees went off, thought he was class again today. But ultimately it’s another game we didn’t see out. Had too many like that last season. Has to change if we’re going to get out of this. Regroup, assess the defensive damage and go again.

@jpowls Same old story with #swfc. Injuries and conceding goals in the dying minutes. Both need fixing ASAP or we’re going down.

@JohnDBell1985 Where are all the Monk apologists now? Nothing has changed since last season, the squad is worse and Monk hasn't changed a thing!

@AshFinney1 Injuries have absolutely killed us there. Three defenders off injured in the game, finishing the game with 10 men and a striker at CB and they’ve scored in the 96th minute with their only shot on goal in the second half.

@ToddSiddons Only time I’ve been happy for a international break with amount of injuries we’ve picked up, sucker punched again. How you meant to see positives from another late blow like that?

@Emmalouise12790 That’s tough draw to take! Unlucky today! Tom Lees easy MOTM!

@JoannaB29636908 Hate draws that feel like a loss

@GeorgeWThornton I want to know what people would have done differently at the end? What can we do about losing multiple defenders and having to make two subs early on? Lob people up top in the 95th minute? No! Very unlucky and at the end of the day we didn't lose! Let's stay behind them!

@jameswo01196925 Borner injured, Dunkley injured, Iorfa injured, Shaw injured in the match, Palmer injured in the match, Lees injured in the match, down to 10 men for the last five minutes, take the draw all day

@Christoph0512 And we have the usual overreaction. If Lees stays on the pitch we win the game. We lost Iorfa and Brown before the game and then Shaw and Palmer during the game. It wasn't a game full of chances but we battled well and deserved the three points. Have some perspective.
