Fletcher has recently returned from a knee injury that had kept him out of action since early January.

That lay-off coincided with a rotten run for Garry Monk’s men but having come back into the side that produced a much-improved display at Birmingham on Saturday, Fletcher ended the Owls’ winless league run of seven games by scoring a dramatic last-gasp winner against Charlton last night.

Speaking after heading in his 13th goal of the season, Fletcher said: “I've spoken to the club (about a new deal) and we are speaking just now.

“Obviously we want to get that tied up but, yes, I would love to see my career out here.

“They have been great with me. I have had a few injuries since I came here and they have always looked after me and my family have settled here as well; my kids are at school, so yes, it's good.”

Wednesday moved up to 12th in the Championship table after that injury-time win over the Addicks – their first at Hillsborough since December 22 – and are now eight points off the play-off places.
