Forward Elias Kachunga, signed on a free transfer in the close season following his release from Huddersfield Town, started Garry Monk’s last two games at Wednesday and was commended for his work rate and energy.
Kachunga and his teammates now face a fresh challenge to catch the eye of new boss Tony Pulis, who replaced Monk last week. The Owls make the trip to Preston on Saturday in what will be his first match as Wednesday manager.

Hide AdPulis has already made clear he doesn’t see Callum Paterson as a forward, but speaking to The Star ahead of the international break Kachunga, 28, said there was a healthy competition for places up front and admitted that their forward line needed to start firing.
“Competition is always good,” he said. “Everyone has to show the manager that we belong in the starting line-up.
“We have to keep fighting and competition is good in the team. Nobody can go out there and take it easy, we all know that somebody can come in and take your place.
“There is really good competition in the team.”
Asked about how he rated his initial impact at the club, Kachunga said: “I’ve been here a few weeks now. I think people know me from before that I give everything.
