“I nearly took the geezer’s neck off…” – Josh Windass has no complaints over his Sheffield Wednesday red card

It was the first red card of his professional career, and Josh Windass admits he can have ‘no complaints’ regarding his recent sending-off for Sheffield Wednesday.
Windass was back in the side and back on the scoresheet for the Owls over the weekend, getting on the end of an Adam Reach cross to expertly head past the Norwich City goalkeeper as SWFC took the lead at Carrow Road.

Hide AdIt was the forward’s first game back after serving a three-game suspension following a straight red away at Preston North End, and he admits he needs to thank Tony Pulis for having faith in him for an immediate return to the XI.
Speaking to the media today, Windass said, “When you’re suspended for three games - it’s the first time I’ve ever done it - you feel like you’ve missed ages.
“Luckily for me it was just a short period because of the amount of games we’ve had. So I was only out for a week or 10 days.
“I’ve got to thank the gaffer for putting me straight back in after effectively letting the team down when I got sent off. It was nice to be back in there, and to score as well.”

And the former Wigan Athletic and Rangers man admitted that he couldn’t complain about the red after seeing it back, but admitted that he thought he was a bit hard done to at the tie.
He explained, “I was going to head it, but then I thought I couldn’t get there so I just pulled out a bit with my foot… But when I’ve watched it back, I nearly took the geezer’s neck off, so I didn’t really have any complaints.
“At the time I didn’t think I did anything wrong, but obviously when you watch it back it’s a little bit different.
“Obviously I didn’t mean it, it was just an accident.”
Windass has a decent scoring record for the Owls if you include his loan spell last season, with his strike in the 2-1 defeat making it 231 minutes per goal since his arrival at Hillsborough, and he’ll be keen to add to that against his boyhood club on Tuesday night.
