Fletcher was stretchered off in the FA Cup win over Brighton and Hove Albion at the weekend and Owls boss Garry Monk revealed the severity of the 12-goal striker’s injury at his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to Leeds United on Saturday.

Wednesday have been linked with a number of strikers during the transfer window, with the Owls boss admitting it is the loan market they are likely to be working in.

“It’s a blow for us, when it comes to any player, but especially when it’s your top scorer in such a good run of form,” he said.

Here’s how Wednesday fans have reacted to Fletcher’s injury on Twitter.

@stuartjoszko Not much evidence so far this season we can cope. We really need a striker to come in and deliver.

@FraserBoyd1 Nuhiu, Rhodes and Winnall up front. I bet rest of the league is petrified.

@jdgascoigne26 Says it all really. New blood needed ASAP

@ChrisHuds We have to get a striker in on loan now, as the ones we have don’t even compare to Fletcher. Big loss that.

@OR19922 Bony and Nketiah please @swfc

@tomstabb The thing with losing Fletch for 8-10 weeks is that not only do we lose the goals, but also his experience. Would take Glenn Murray and Nketiah right now

@OwlsFooty Fletcher out for 8-10 weeks. Massive blow to the squad but our players aren’t getting younger. Need new material to work with.

@johnada75157425 Unfortunately I have no confidence in our other striking options. Gutted Fletcher is out

@holliwotsits Might get me some abuse here but what about bringing in Clarke and Sharp from across the city, loans until end of the season? Sounds crazy but both can find the net, both can play with each other, no big upheaval for either of them and I think they'd suit our style of play.

@1867News Well if Nketiah was worried that he wouldn't get a start at #swfc then the problem has been removed. With Fletcher out he has no competition whatsoever.
