'I am not going to sulk or feel sorry for myself' - Under-fire Sheffield Wednesday boss Garry Monk pledges to fight hard as he targets Owls revival

Monk's Wednesday side have recorded just one victory from their last 10 Championship matches to fall from third to 12th in the table.

Wednesday registered only three shots on target in Saturday's dismal defeat to Reading and have yet to score at Hillsborough this calendar year.

Nine points separate the Owls from the play-off positions after a six-match winless run, prompting some Wednesdayites to call for Monk to be axed.

Asked where this period ranks in his time as a manager, Monk told The Star: "It’s right up there.

"But that’s what you have to get on with. I am not going to sulk or feel sorry for myself.

"I want to give me best for this club, for the team, and my aim is to get to the point where I can physically affect that change.

"But I need to get results, and the team needs to get results in the meantime, and as quickly as possible."

Monk, who has previously managed Swansea City, Leeds United, Middlesbrough and Birmingham City, is determined to turn things around.

"I've said from the very start that this is a very big job and I've talked a lot about change," he said. “My aim is to get to the point where I can get to the point where I can physically make those changes but I understand in the meantime I need to get results."
