The Spaniard, whose mysterious stint at Wednesday ended in a whirlwind of social media controversy earlier this year, struck a deal with long-time Rams owner Mel Morris to buy the club a month ago.
But reports circulated in the national media late last night cited club sources that felt ‘alarm bells were ringing’ over his proposed buyout and that Alonso had intended to borrow money against the club’s Pride Park stadium in order to complete the purchase.

Hide Ad“That is not true, we will go ahead with the takeover,” Alonso told TalkSport earlier today [Thursday].
Quizzed on why the reports had surfaced, he said: “I don’t know. We continue and we go ahead.
“I’m just putting the debt on my name. What I want to do is put the stadium under my name, that’s all.
The fund-strapped Rams, who like Wednesday and a host of other EFL clubs have suffered major cashflow issues since the outset of the coronavirus crisis, are understood to have been forced to ask Morris to pay players out of his own pocket last week.

Asked whether his interest in Derby would continue in the event of relegation, Alonso said: “Why not? Derby County is bigger than any division, so yes.”
