Delighted manager Jos Luhukay has revealed how "some harsh words" in a team meeting inspired the Owls to go on and beat promotion hopefuls Aston Villa.

Second half strikes from Marco Matias and Steven Fletcher ensured Wednesday claimed a 2-1 victory at Villa Park. Victory moved them up to 10th position in the Championship.

Luhukay, appointed the Owls' boss last January, labelled their display as the best away performance of his time at the club. It came just over 48 hours after their dismal showing against Nottingham Forest.

"We had a lot of time to sit together after the game on Wednesday," Luhukay told The Star. "We spoke a lot on Friday about how we like to play, how we will defend and how we will go into the offensive situations.

"The players are very open. There were some harsh words in the team meeting between myself, the players and my assistants.

"We spoke a lot with each other and we saw the answers at Villa from what we tried to do with each other.

"It is the way we must behave. We must work as a team: the players, the staff and medical team. We must do a lot of work together. If you do that, you can get fantastic performances."

Wednesday have taken four points from three tricky fixtures since the international break.

Luhukay, who made five changes to his starting line-up, including handing a full debut to Michael Hector, said: "We are absolutely happy with four points from three difficult matches.

"We now have two fantastic opponents coming up at home in Leeds and West Bromwich Albion.

"But when we play like we did against Aston Villa, we must not be afraid. The players must have a lot of trust in themselves. When we have a good formation, good tactics and play with confidence, we can do a lot of good things in this league."
