A previous vote held in 2017 meant rules were changed to ensure all transfers had to be carried out ahead of the start of the Premier League season, with the cut-off for all deals in 2019 at 11pm on August 8. It had been changed after managers had complained that it was a distraction at the start of their season and it was hoped that European leagues would shift their rules forward accordingly.

Sheffield Wednesday have been busy on transfer deadline day in recent times. The summer window saw Massimo Luongo make the move from QPR, with David Bates and Jacob Murphy joining on loan from Hamburg and Newcastle respectively.

Connor Wickham of Crystal Palace and Wigan Athletic’s Josh Windass joined on deadline day of the winter window last week.
