The youngster is in line to make his fourth consecutive appearance for the Owls in the FA Cup fourth round clash at against QPR on Friday, in the competition he made such an impact in on debut in the last round at Brighton.

The 19-year-old was one of the casualties as Monk used all three of his substitutes by the start of the second half, as he was replaced by club captain Tom Lees at half-time in the 5-0 rout.

But Monk reported that the youngster has responded well to the decision and that he had put an arm around him to explain why it had been made.

“He’s been doing great,” Monk said. “I spoke to him about it and it’s part of his journey.

“It wasn’t particularly him. The situation after the sending off, and before, you’re taking it all in and the team were struggling in certain areas.

“Certain things were coming against us and you have to try and make changes to stop that.

“I was just about to make a change just before the sending off to try and affect where we were causing ourselves problems really, or allowing them to cause us problems.

“But then there was the sending off and we had to re-jig at half-time.

“You have to make those decisions in those moments to try and stem the flow.”
