But how have they fared at their respective clubs this season? Click and scroll through the pages as we take a look at each player's campaign:
5. Jake Kean
After being released by the Owls at the end of the 2017/18 season, it took Kean up until December to find a new club - returning to Mansfield on a short-term deal. He was soon released there, too, and is now a free agent. Photo: Stu Forster
6. George Hirst
With opportunities hard to come by at Hillsborough, Hirst opted for a switch to Belgium. It’s kind of paid off with OH Leuven with 20 appearances, two goals and five assists allowing Hirst to taste senior football. Photo: JPI Media
7. Jacob Butterfield
Butterfield didn’t technically leave the Owls, though we’re giving him an honourable mention following last season’s loan spell. He failed to break-in at Derby and was loaned to Bradford City in January, who were relegated from League One. Photo: Nathan Stirk
8. Frederico Venancio
Another honourable mention for the exact same reasons as Butterfield. He signed for Portuguese top-flight side Guimaraes in the summer but it hasn’t worked out with just five outings to his name. Photo: Laurence Griffiths
