Dominic Iorfa, the returning Josh Windass and substitute Jacob Murphy scored the goals on an afternoon that saw the Owls bounce back from three consecutive defeats to record their fourth league win of 2020.
And a team meeting held ahead of their departure from Sheffield yesterday served as the launchpad for the win.
He said: “We know we needed to respond and I think we did today in terms of a complete performance, both defensively and offensively. It was a very pleasing day.
“We had a good talk last night and about what we wanted from this game and taking that opportunity and we’ve gone and delivered it. And that’s from the whole squad.
“From start to finish from when we travelled down yesterday to where we are now we should be very pleased with that.”
Describing the mood within the camp as a ‘united front’ heading into the game, Monk wouldn’t be pushed on the exact content of the meeting but said he was happy with the response after a string of disappointing outings.
“That’s between me and the players,” he said. “But you can imagine what’s been said. It’s our pride and we’d felt we’d been doing pretty well across the course of these few games but we weren’t getting across the line with the things we’ve talked about.
“The only way we can do it is to talk and show up and have those conversations and then put it into our actions.
“It was a meeting where we all shared our view and how we wanted to go about today and how we can ensure doing that.
"We do that sort of thing anyway but maybe things were heightened by the run we’ve been on and the results we’ve had and we wanted to prove a point that we can play with a passion and a spirit and a fight.”
