Wednesday were back to winning ways on Sunday afternoon as they saw off a late rally from Bristol City to pick up a deserved 2-1 win at Ashton Gate to climb up to 13th in the Championship table.
Connor Wickham, who got a dramatic late equaliser to pick up a point in the 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest last week, opened the scoring this time around as he got onto the end of a Jacob Murphy corner to expertly head home past Niki Maenpaa.

Hide AdWickham won more aerial battles than any other SWFC player (6), was heavily involved with 42 touches (only 10 of the 32 involved had more), and no player on the field had more shots (3).
It was Wednesday’s first away win since January, and their first win at all since February, and Monk was full of praise for the Crystal Palace loanee after another impressive showing.
Speaking after the game, the Wednesday boss said, “Connor exemplifies what all the players who’ve committed to being here have done, they’ve come back in with a great attitude and worked hard on fitness to be ready…
“I knew when I brought Connor in that he wouldn’t be at his full match sharpness, he hadn’t played a great deal of football, so he was always going to take time to get back to his usual sharpness… He’s used the lockdown period to get ready, and now you’re seeing what he is capable of.”
