Pulis left the Owls in December along with both Craig Gardner and Mike Trusson, with ‘Thommo’ being appointed as interim manager until a replacement is found.

He went on to bring Lee Bullen, Steve Haslam and Nicky Weaver into his setup with the first team, as well as Andy Holdsworth, looking into the club’s youth structures for long-term servants of the club to help push the club forward in difficult circumstances.

Speaking to the media this week, Thompson praised all of his staff, saying, “The coaches have been fantastic… I’ve worked with them a lot in the academy - Bully, Steve, Andy Holdsworth, Nicky Weaver.

“They’re all very supportive, all very knowledgeable and all people I trust. When we’re discussing things there’s a really good balance of ideas about where we need to go. And I can trust them do go and do what they need to do.

“There’s a couple of them who are doing a couple of jobs at the minute with the U23s and the U18s, but it’s not just them - it’s the analysts, physios, the masseurs, and Struds (Tony Strudwick) in the fitness department. They’re all doing a terrific job.”

It remains to be seen how much longer Thompson will remain in charge of the club on an interim basis, but SWFC’s impressive for since his arrival has not done his prospects of getting the job himself any harm at all.
