'He's probably told him a few home truths' - Jeff Stelling reacts to Sheffield Wednesday sacking Tony Pulis

Jeff Stelling has suggested that Sheffield Wednesday could struggle to find a suitable replacement for Tony Pulis after the Owls parted company with the manager on Monday evening.

The 62-year-old took charge of just 10 games at Hillsborough before being sacked, picking up one win in that spell.

Giving a statement to Wednesday’s official website, chairman Dejphon Chansiri said: "The performances and results have not been of the level expected since Tony Pulis was appointed.

"There are also other issues which have had a bearing on this decision."

Chansiri had previously ousted former boss Garry Monk in mid-November, but his replacement failed to have the immediate impact that was expected of him, and Pulis leaves the club with the Owls still occupying a spot in the relegation zone.

But Stelling has taken to social media to voice his disapproval of the dismissal, and has also implied that Wednesday could face a difficult task in finding a manager who is willing to take on such a troubled side.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, the Soccer Saturday host said: “So Tony Pulis sacked after 45 days.

"Who on earth does the owner think will want to take on this club now?

"Four points from last two games. Tony has probably told him a few home truths and he hasn’t liked it.”

Despite a poor run of results, Pulis and his side had enjoyed something of an upturn in fortunes over the festive period.

A 1-0 win over Coventry City gave the boss his first and only win in Sheffield, and was followed by a battling 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers on Boxing Day.
